Jainie works late on Wednesdays and she managed to convinced me to wait for her after my last class. For over two hours. Just look how nice I am.
On our dark drive home, after successfully navigating the line-less section of the freeway, our conversation turned to scary things. I told her what I think about ghosts (or what people think are ghosts) and she told me about skinwalkers. After a significantly creepy story about an old woman chasing cars on all fours and then running herself off a cliff, I was a little wigged out. As a nice touch, we finished that story just as we drove by the cemetery in our neighborhood.
Then, things got WEIRD. We topped the hill and I glanced out the window. The sky at night is beautiful and I like to look at it. What I wasn't expecting to see as I glanced up was aliens. That's right, ALIENS. A bright, flying object first caught my attention. As my eyes followed its path, they were led to these strange red dots. They just sat there, hovering, solid red without any flashing.
(My paint skill aren't so great, forgive me)
"Jain, it's aliens! There are aliens!"
"Too bad I'm driving and can't look," she replied. Obviously, the thing to do when your older sister says she sees aliens is to pull over immediately and look. She did no such thing, so I suggested it.
"They're dropping things!" I had to exclaim next as glittery packages fell from the red lights. The things they dropped looked just as big as the red lights themselves and they kind of flickered as they fell. Then, what looked like to me a third of the way to the ground, they just disappeared.
We watched for a little while and then realized our family NEEDED to see this. So we drove home, chatting excitedly about how we were seeing UFOs. Due to the lack of straight roads near the house, that piece of sky was briefly out of sight. When we turned again, I immediately looked for the lights and was shocked. "They've moved!" I guess I wasn't expecting them to actually move. We got home and rushed inside, news practically bubbling off our lips, only to find most everyone outside watching the lights. Dad saw the same thing on his way home and got everyone, minus the youngest, who was in the shower, outside to see.
We joined in, watching the red lights drift around, dropping whatever it was they had. Jain rushed to one of the TVs and turned on the news. Nothing. Dad and that guy called my brother, tried to take pictures. I'm not sure how successful they were. Whatever we were watching, they weren't any sort of aircraft I know of. Intrigued, and a little freaked, we watched them, drifting around into new positions and dropping bright, glittering...things, until they moved too far away to see.
While there probably is a perfectly normal explanation, I don't know it. Therefore, I'm going to stick with my first assumption: ALIENS.
